Workshop is currently working on a proposal for a mixed use development comprising a hotel/serviced apartment complex of 46 apartments/rooms, reception area and conference room; 10 permanent residential apartments; a shop, restaurant, and parking for 56 vehicles. The project is in Batemans Bay, NSW. The proposal was submitted to the NSW Department of Planning for determination under the Major Projects State Environment Planning Policy. it was granted approval from the Minister for Planning in April 2009.
During the design of this building we worked closely with the NSW Department of Planning and the Local Coucil to update the Planning Controls for the Centre of Batemans Bay to allow this type of Development. The propsal is seen as a bench mark design for future development in the area.
The design proposes a timber frame construction clad in timber and terracotta. Careful consideration has been given to passive environmental control as well as innovative sustainable heating and cooling systems. This project is expected to begin construction in 2010.
